อุปกรณ์ตรวจจับควัน แบบระบุตำแหน่ง (Intelligent Smoke Detector) หรือ Addressable Smoke Detector จัดเป็นอุปกรณ์เริ่มสัญญาณ (Initiating Devices) ซึ่งเป็นอุปกรณ์ต้นกําเนิด ของ สัญญาณเตือนอัคคีภัย หรือ เรียกกันว่า อุปกรณ์เริ่มสัญญาณ แบบอัตโนมัติ (Automatic Initiation Devices) โดยอุปกรณ์ตรวจจับ แบบระบุตำแหน่ง นี้ จะต้องต่อทำงานร่วมกับตู้ควบคุมระบบ แบบระบุตำแหน่ง Intelligent Fire Alarm Control Panel หรือ Multiplex Fire Alarm Control Panel หรือ Addressable Fire Alarm Control Panel เท่านั้น
